James Tombs

I studied Optometry in Cardiff University. I started work at Gwynns Opticians in July 1998 and became a Director of the company in 2011.

I have a genuine passion for Optometry and am always looking to improve. I have specialist qualifications in low vision and acute eye care. I have recently gone back to University to gain independent prescribing rights. This will allow me to prescribe medications for all eye conditions and keep patients in primary care and out of hospital.

Out of work I enjoy being a Dad, running and renovating my house.

Chris Evans

I graduated from Aston University in 1999. I moved to South Wales in the summer of 2001 and have worked across the industry, including both Cardiff and Plymouth Universities before starting at Gwynns in 2014.

I mainly work in the Aberdare branch. I hold higher qualifications in; Glaucoma, Low Vision, Clinical Teaching, Mentoring and am working towards becoming and Independent Prescriber. I also work for WOPEC as a tutor and a mentor to increase skill levels of Optometrists across Wales. I have performed careers talks to encourage people into Optometry at local schools and Sixth Forms and have had a number of interested students, including overseas Optometrists sit in with me.

I am married with two sons. I enjoy board games, talking about Disney holidays and cricket.

Phillip Rees

Graduated from Aston University in 1983

I have worked for Gwynns since January 1984 and am based in Pontypridd. I am accredited to carry out enhanced Welsh Eyecare and Low Vision examinations.

I am married with grown up son and daughter. I enjoy watching most sports and playing golf

MATTHEW JONES

I graduated from Cardiff University in 2000. I did my pre-registration year at Gwynns and have been here ever since! I work across the Tredegar, Blackwood and Aberdare branches.

I am able to carry out Welsh eye care examinations, contact lens fitting and hold higher qualifications in low vision.

I enjoy all sports, especially football and love spending time with my wife Joanne and daughter Sofia (and Chihuahua Bella!)
